14 Favourites From 2014

Looks like it's time to say sayonara to yet another year! I swear as I get older, time goes by even faster.

Instead of doing favourites by categories, I decided to just select fourteen stand-out products this year. These are all products that I've found myself reaching for time and time again knowing they're fool-proof every time.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed

Something about this blush is just so perfect for any look. I can't even properly describe this shade as it's slightly pink-toned but also very neutral to give that sculpted subtle flush. It's incredibly pigmented and long lasting so I never have to worry about it after applying it early in the mornings.

NARS Blush in Sin

I must have worn this blush every day for weeks throughout the winter. It looks scary in the pan as it's quite a dark berry shade but it's surprisingly wearable with a light hand and golden shimmers really lift the complexion.

MAC Studio Fix Powder + Foundation

I discovered this product in the middle of the year and have barely gone a day without it when wearing makeup. In the summer I wore this on its own buffed in layers for a full coverage look and in the winter I started using it as a powder over liquid foundations.

Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Lots o' Latte

This was easily my go-to eye product for this year. It doesn't require a primer, even on my oily lids so on days when I'm in a hurry I just pop a bit of this on and blend out the edges. Simple as that.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics Palette

I absolutely love matte eyeshadows and this palette proved to be the perfect one for me. The shades are darker in this one than the original and the tones are more cool toned as well, making it more suitable for me. These shadows are seriously buttery and so easy to blend.

NARS And God Created The Woman Palette

This and the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics palette are really the only two palettes I need. The shimmery shades in this palette are absolutely gorgeous and so easy to work with. They're good on their own or paired with a little matte crease shade.

MAC Lipstick in Plumful

I still don't wear lipstick on a daily basis but I found myself reaching for Plumful a lot. It's a bright but deeper shade that's suitable any time of the year but particularly in the autumn and winter. It's comfortable to wear as it is a luster finish and has just the right amount of pigmentation, making it incredibly wearable.

NUXE Reve de Miel Lip Balm

Living through the winter in Ottawa would've been painful without this little lip balm. It seriously protected my lips and kept them nice and nourished throughout the year. I put a bit of this on every single night before bed and I'm guaranteed soft lips by the morning.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

I can always rely on this to remove every bit of my makeup without leaving my skin stripped or oily. The balm melts into an oil that gently breaks down every little scrap of makeup. I find such joy in using this cleanser as I always end up giving my face a massage. A little goes a long way too so a tub of this lasted me a long time.

LUSH Tea Tree Water

Something about tea tree and my skin just get along and work magic together. This toner really helps to keep spots and oil at bay. It's reasonably priced and the ingredients are simple.

Essie Absolutely Shore

Throughout spring and summer, this was probably all I wore on my nails. I went through about a quarter of the bottle over the span of about 5 months which never happens as I always switch up my colours. I love how the pale seafoam green colour goes with my skin tone and I imagine it would be flatter on my skin tones. Two to three coats will do the trick and it tends to last about five days.

Nails Inc Grosvenor Crescent

As soon as September came around, I started wearing this nail polish for about three months straight. This deep aubergine shade is still a nice dark vampy option without being the usual deep burgundy or plum that I use to always reach for. In the new gel formula, this nail polish has great lasting power and a nice gel-like finish to it.

Chloe Eau de Parfum

This very quickly became my everyday perfume as it's fresh and slightly floral. I think it suits me quite well too! I can't imagine anyone particularly disliking this one. The lasting power is alright but I don't mind reapplying in the middle of day for a quick refresh.

GHD Classic 1 Inch Styler

This was an investment but worth every penny so far. I can straighten and curl my hair within 10 to 15 minutes and my hair is always left shiny, not fried. I have no regrets.
