I have always been conscious of whether brands are cruelty free or not, but I never committed to going completely cruelty free. Yes, I mostly buy synthetic bristle brushes. Yes, I try my best to support brands that are cruelty free. No, I haven't completely cut out brands that are not cruelty free. I came across Jessica's post last month and it inspired me to make an effort to actually go further into the cruelty free zone.

I'm not going to go into detail on going cruelty free as Jessica's post on 5 Steps Closer to Cruelty Free offers some great tips and resources. Two weeks ago I also invited Suzi of Cruelty Free Kitty to do a guest post on going cruelty free. I highly recommend checking these links out.

I love supporting Canadian brands so to see that BITE Beauty is a cruelty free brand is a huge relief. Based in Toronto, BITE Beauty does lip products with ingredients good enough to eat. I've posted plenty about the brand in the past, with a huge focus on my favourite BITE Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Glacé. Their Matte Crème Lip Crayons are by far my favourite product range they do, though I do have my eyes on their new Amuse Bouche line to replace their original Luminous Crème.

Hourglass Cosmetics is part of my everyday routine. I just can't get enough of their Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light and Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette. They're pricey but excellent quality and remember, cruelty free.

NARS is one of those brands where they are cruelty free, but are owned by a company that isn't. NARS is owned by Shiseido and Shiseido itself is not cruelty free. NARS do some of my favourite products so I'm happy to know that at least NARS itself does not test on animals. I have been a long time lover of the NARS Blush in Sin, especially this time of the year. The NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are also some of my favourite matte lip formulas, and in particular I love the shade Dragon Girl. The NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Callisto is my go-to for party looks. More recently, I fell in the love with the NARS Audacious Lipstick in Barbara and the new NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint in Alaska.

There are some cruelty free brands that I definitely need to try more from. I have heard fantastic reviews on Kat Von D products, but I myself have only tried the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper. Anastasia Beverly Hills is all over my wishlist at the moment. I have the Anastasia Duo Brow Powder and the Anastasia Brow Gel, but I'm dying to try their Dipbrow Pomade and Brow Wiz.

What are some cruelty free brands and products you recommend? Is going cruelty free important to you?
