It is no secret that I love Real Techniques brushes; they're good quality brushes that are incredibly affordable. So many people love the Buffing Brush but a lot like the Expert Face Brush too. Which one do I prefer? Well it depends on what I'm trying to do.

Converting to become more of a powder foundation kind of girl, I always reach for the Buffing Brush. It is dense enough to give good coverage and the flat top makes it easy to cover large areas. I strictly use this brush for foundation, both liquid and powder, though I occasionally use it to blend in concealer over a large area when I accidentally apply too much.

The Expert Face Brush is more of a multi-tasking brush. It is a lot like the Buffing Brush but pinched to become a hybrid of a classic flat foundation brush and the Buffing Brush. This is a great one for liquid foundation, especially when you want to blend close under the eyes and around the nose. It is also a fantastic brush for contouring as well as long as you apply with a light hand. Jessica has a great video on the many uses for this Expert Face Brush so for more ideas, turn to her video now.

The good thing about the Expert Face brush is that it can be purchased individually. The Buffing Brush comes in the Core Collection which comes with three other face brushes. It is totally worth the extra money to get some other brushes though. I personally use the Buffing Brush more than the Expert Face Brush.

Do you own both brushes? If so, which one do you use more often?

  1. I use my buffing brush regularly for my foundation. Gives such a great finish but its a shame that it only come along as a set otherwise i would have investing in a couple more. I actually tend to neglect the expert face brush because i find it quite difficult to blend out foundation maybe because of the shape of it? or just because i'm too used to the buffing brush.

I'm a big fan of real technique brushes just like you.
Thanks for posting, Have a great day~ ♥

  2. Hey Celina! I really like the expert face brushes for cream blushes.. especially the Chanel ones. They do a fantastic job of picking up just the right amount and blending it quickly!

  3. I own both as well, and I don't see much difference between them in terms of useability and finished product. I really like both of them though if I had to choose, I'd go with the Buffing brush. I feel like its slight more fluffiness makes it better at blending, faster.

  4. I only own the Expert Face Brush, and I agree, it's fantastic for liquid foundation. I also tried it powder contour but feel it's a little too dense for that.

  5. If I had to pick one it'd be the buffing brush, but I love the expert face too! I use them both for foundation, cream blush, concealer, everything! Love them.

  6. i only have the expert face brush and although I love it soo much I think that I would use the buffing brush a lot more if i had it! I find the expert face brush a little stiff which doesn't make it great at giving the 'airbrushed' foundation look sometimes xx

  8. I used the Expert Face brush every day until I bought the set with the Buffing Brush - I do feel a bit guilty for abandoning the Expert Face Brush as I love both! xx

  10. I would definitely purchase another buffing brush if it came on its own as well! I adore the brush but I don't feel the need to purchase the set. I think it's the shape of the expert face brush that doesn't win it for me too for foundation. xx

  19. I too find myself constantly battling between these two, I guess if I had to pick one I'd choose the Buffing Brush, I think overall it is my favourite.
